How to Unjam Guns and Fix Your Weapons

These are the default settings to unjam your weapons and fix any malfunctions:

  • Inspect weapon - "L"
  • Fix malfunction - "LSHIFT+T"
  • Continue fighting
  • In most situations, memorizing three separate buttons to click can become overwhelming, especially when facing off against players in high-stress battles. Thankfully, there is an easier way to inspect weapons and fix malfunctions.

Change these controls for one-hotkey unjam/fix malfunction:

    ControlBindPress Type
    Inspect current weaponLRelease
    Check chamber/fix malfunctionLPress

After changing the controls to these binds, every time your weapon malfunctions you'll only need to hit "L" twice before the malfunction is resolved. Far better than "L" to "LSHIFT+T" just to resolve a simple problem.

    Overheating Weapons in Tarkov

Following more recent patches, weapons can now overheat in Escape from Tarkov once firing a high amount of rounds at once, overheating chance depends on how heat prone the weapon part is.

When firing your weapon for long periods, you'll notice the tip of your gun begins to change color from its default to cherry red. This is because the weapon is heating up and eventually the weapon is going to malfunction. Heating the weapon will ultimately damage it and affect you because you're going to have to wait for it to cool down and again, fix the malfunction.

Thankfully, there won't be any changes within hotkeys and you can simply inspect the weapon, fix the malfunction and continue fighting - just make sure to change the binds!
